WHAT IS KAREN’S PILATES?

Karen’s Pilates is an intelligent and effective approach to exercise, healthfully tailored to your needs. The program teaches the anatomy of movement: how your body works and what muscles you are using. The results: You will relieve pain, improve balance, stand taller, be stronger, breathe better… and feel great!


And that’s the key. When students develop a deeper understanding of their body, they bring that knowledge into their daily lives. They learn to keep their shoulders down as they walk and spines aligned when they plant their garden.

 

How I came to Pilates

I ran my own business for over twenty years and raised two children. After 9/11 and cancer, I decided it was time to close shop. My kids were well on their way toward personal and professional success. Teaching Pilates was not in my purview. 


I wanted to seek other opportunities and knew I no longer  wanted to sit behind a desk. So as a lark in 2009, I attended the Fitness Instructors Program at Hunter College. It was a comprehensive course of study, including Functional Anatomy, Exercise Physiology,

Introduction to Nutrition and teaching Adult Fitness. 

There were three fitness levels and Pilates was the third. An outstanding instructor from the San Francisco Ballet introduced Pilates and encouraged me to explore the possibilities. After her program, I knew that if I was going to embark on this path, it was to be Pilates. 

 
 

MY EXPERIENCE


I completed the Comprehensive Pilates Mat Certification at the Kane School in Manhattan,

opened my studio, taught at Star Physical Therapy

and have conducted private and group classes ever since.


Teaching Pilates since 2010 has been a revelation.

I had no idea that the practice would enhance my life and the lives of my students.

 

PRIVATE SESSIONS

Private sessions are held in my studio, in a client’s home or in their gym.
I will teach 2 clients, a duet, if requested.

GROUP CLASSES

 Held in my studio, classes are limited to 5 clients in each session which enables me to follow everyone closely.

Classes are 5 days a week and I am always adding more.  A free introductory class is also offered.
